Why did I not receive a reply after I sent a yahoo american greetings e-card?

I sent a yahoo american greetings e-card to a friend in the U.S. and did not receive a reply that the e-card has been opened & received. Previously when I send e-cards I receive replies that they have been opened and received. Aside from my e-card going to the spam folder what other reasons are there?
